Privacy Policy

Last Updated: January 3, 2026

1. Introduction

TrimLink ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our URL shortening service at trimlink.co.

2. Privacy-First Commitment

TrimLink is built on a privacy-first foundation. Unlike other URL shorteners, we do not:

  • Track individual visitors who click on your links
  • Collect personally identifiable information (PII) from link visitors
  • Use browser fingerprinting or tracking cookies on shortened links
  • Sell or share your data with third parties for marketing purposes

3. Information We Collect

3.1 Account Information

When you create an account, we collect:

  • Email address
  • Name (optional)
  • Password (encrypted)

3.2 Link Analytics (Non-PII)

For shortened links, we collect aggregate, non-identifiable data:

  • Click counts and timestamps
  • Geographic region — country and city. Derived from the CDN geo header at click time; the originating IP is discarded immediately and never persisted.
  • Referrer sources (the domain the visitor came from, not the full URL)
  • Device type (desktop / mobile / tablet)
  • Browser family (Chrome / Firefox / Safari / Edge / Opera / Other) — we never store browser versions, plugins, screen size, or anything else that could fingerprint a visitor across clicks
  • Operating system family (Windows / macOS / iOS / Android / Linux / Other) — same low-resolution approach as browser

Important: We do NOT store IP addresses, full user-agent strings, or any data that could identify individual visitors. Country and city are derived from a single CDN header at request time and then the IP is dropped — we have no way to link two clicks back to the same person.

3.3 Usage Data

We collect information about how you use TrimLink:

  • Links created
  • Custom domains configured
  • QR codes generated
  • Feature usage patterns

4. How We Use Your Information

We use the collected information to:

  • Provide and maintain the TrimLink service
  • Process your transactions and send confirmations
  • Send you service-related announcements
  • Respond to your support requests
  • Detect and prevent fraud or abuse
  • Improve our service based on usage patterns
  • Enforce our Terms of Service

5. Data Storage and Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data:

  • Encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS)
  • Encrypted password storage (bcrypt)
  • Secure cloud infrastructure
  • Regular security audits
  • Access controls and monitoring

Your data is stored on secure servers located in the United States.

6. Data Retention

  • Free accounts: Analytics retained for 30 days
  • Pro accounts: Analytics retained for 1 year
  • Business accounts: Analytics retained for lifetime of account
  • Deleted accounts: All personal data deleted within 30 days

7. Cookies and Tracking

TrimLink uses minimal cookies necessary for service operation:

  • Authentication cookies: Keep you logged in (essential)
  • Preference cookies: Remember your settings (essential)

No Consent Required: We only use essential cookies that are strictly necessary for the website to function. Under GDPR Article 6(1)(f), these cookies do not require your consent.

We do NOT use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or third-party analytics cookies on our main site or on shortened links.

8. Third-Party Services

We use limited third-party services to operate, secure, and improve TrimLink:

  • Authentication: Google OAuth, when you choose to sign in with Google
  • URL safety checks: Google Safe Browsing may receive destination URLs for malware and phishing screening before links are created
  • Payment processing: Polar (for paid subscriptions)
  • Email delivery: Transactional emails only
  • Infrastructure: Cloud hosting providers
  • Error monitoring: Sentry helps us diagnose application errors and reliability issues
  • Favicon display: Dashboard, shared-report, and tool pages may request destination hostnames from Google's favicon service to show recognizable site icons. We do not send full destination paths, query strings, click analytics, or account data for this display.

These services are bound by their own privacy policies. We choose vendors and integration patterns that keep our core promise intact: TrimLink tracks link performance without tracking individual link visitors.

9. Your Rights (GDPR & CCPA)

You have the right to:

  • Access: Request a copy of your data
  • Rectification: Correct inaccurate data
  • Erasure: Delete your account and data
  • Portability: Export your data
  • Objection: Opt out of marketing communications

To exercise these rights, contact us at support@trimlink.co

10. Children's Privacy

TrimLink is not intended for users under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

11. International Data Transfers

Your data may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your own. We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place to protect your data in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date.
